Girls Soccer
South Otago 1sts gave St Hilda's Purple some tough competition on Sunday - their first game for the season.
It was a good effort considering this is a new team being built up again.

The score was nil all at half time. Conceding goals were in the first 10 minutes of second half and in the last 10 minutes of game. Resulting in 2-0 loss.

Our strikers had numerous shots at goal but were at times unlucky at getting ball into the net. Credit to our backs ability to work hard and feed to the front. Well done to those defenders: Keita Burnside, Nazmun McNaught, Hayley Witt, and Kelsey Yung. Special mention to our Goal Keep, Taylor Burnside whose ability at ball clearance, provided the team with a great advantage. POD went to Keita Burnside (CAS).

Game this Sunday is against St Hilda's Blue at SOHS, meet at gym 9am.

1st XI
The 1st XI played Bayfield HS at home on Wednesday, going down 4-3. The score was 2-2 at halftime, which probably flattered us a little, but we were determined to pick up our performance in the second spell, most notably in the defensive third. Bayfield scored two goals early in the second half - including one outside-the-box screamer - to give them a buffer, but from that point it was all one-way traffic with our boys creating a raft of opportunities. The game went down to the wire, but sadly we were unable to convert enough of our chances to win at least a share of the points. Overall, an encouraging performance. The side plays Kaikorai Valley College away next Wednesday.

2nd XI
The 2nd XI played King's HS in Mosgiel on Wednesday and were beaten by the unfortunate scoreline of 14-0.

Boys Soccer
The Boys had the unenviable job of playing top of the table Otago Boys 1st XI on Wednesday. Earlier in the season OBHS dominated the game and came out 5-0 winners. Early signs on Wednesday looked similar with OBHS dominating large periods of play, and ELLIOT MCKINNEL saving a number of clear chances. However, after half time, CONNOR RUSSELL put SOHS ahead 1-0 with a good old fashion toe poke. The boys were already thinking about making their first ever appearance in Norm's Numbers with an historic win. Sadly, OBHS hit back 5 minutes later, and then again shortly after to take back control of the game. As TOM HOUGHTON pushed forward to try and gain an equaliser OBHS scored a couple of lucky goals that flattered their performance for a 4-1 final score. Next Wednesday there is no game due to other schools involved in interschool’s and the remaining teams playing catch-up games. Practice as normal on Monday 11th with Mr Carroll.

Girls Soccer
The Girls’ team got back on their winning way last Sunday with a comfortable 7-2 win over Columba B. With the teams locked 2-2 at half time, SOHS took control of the game with some outstanding goals. The boys played against Waitaki Boys on Wednesday as part of the Knockout Competition of the Premier Grade. Waitaki scored with only a few minutes remaining in the game to win 1-0. In the first game of the season, SOHS was beaten 9-2 by Waitaki, so a much better performance from all players.
