Rationale
At both Year 12 and 13 students work towards (and most achieve) the National Certificate in Computing Levels 2 and 3, a nationally recognised qualification. Units of work include web designing, animating and software programming.
 
Content

Level 1 TIM

Unit Standard
  • Demonstrate and apply knowledge of a personal computer system (Level 2)
Achievement Standards
  • Enter text from provided material and by direct entry composition.
  • Use standard operating and file management procedures.
  • Access and process information from different sources.
  • Manage information using a spreadsheet and a text application
  • Apply design principles to produce documents.

Level 2 Computing

Compulsory Unit Standards
  • Demonstrate and apply knowledge of a personal computer system.
  • Manage and protect data in a personal computer system.
Students then individually select Unit Standards from the following list:
  • Use a word processor to produce documents.
  • Create and use a computer spreadsheet to solve a problem.
  • Create and use a computer data base to solve a problem.
  • Produce desktop published documents to meet a set brief.
  • Produce computer graphics using basic functions.
  • Use computer technology to create and deliver a presentation from given content.
  • Create individual web pages as a basis of a web site.
  • Create a simple website to meet the specifications of a given brief.
  • Create a simple website using text editor to meet specifications of a given brief.
  • Produce information using word processing functions.

Level 3 Computing

Compulsory Unit Standards (Level 2, if students have not already gained them)
  • Demonstrate and apply knowledge of a personal computer system.
  • Manage and protect data in a personal computer system.
Students then individually select Unit Standards from the following list of Level 3 Unit Standards:
  • Create a computer spreadsheet to provide a solution for organizational use.
  • Create and use a computer database to provide a solution for organizational use.
  • Produce desktop published documents for organizational use.
  • Produce a presentation using a desktop presentation computer application.
  • Use computer technology to solve a specific problem.
  • Create images using a computer.
  • Design and assemble a multimedia computer application without scripting.
  • Create a website for organizational use.
