Gateway
Background
Gateway is funded by the Tertiary Education Commission and has been a programme at South Otago High School since 2007.
Gateway at South Otago High School
The Gateway programme is offered to Year 12 and 13 students who are interested in a career in a particular industry and who are work-ready and mature. Students must have achieved NCEA Level 1 Numeracy and Literacy.
Students are invited to apply for this programme at the end of each year. Selection is by interview and we have only limited spaces available.
An Individual Learning Plan is developed for each student. This includes work related unit standards which lead to nationally recognised workplace qualifications. Many of these units are assessed by industry accessors, through Polytechnics or other training providers.
A range of employment related qualifications are also offered in the classroom including Workplace First Aid, Health & Safety in the Workplace, Kiwihost, preparing CV’s etc.
