North Balclutha Bus
This is a valuable service that has run successfully for a number of years. However, in recent times, the numbers using this service have fallen. Despite the modest fare increase that was announced at the start of this year, this service is still running at a loss. This loss can only be sustained in the short term.
There are three alternatives:
more passengers are signed up for the service;
increase the costs to current users so that the service runs at a ‘break even’ level
the service be discontinued.
All of the schools would be disappointed if option 3 was required. This is a very cost effective service for parents and is particularly valuable in the winter months when the weather is less than ideal for walking or cycling.
What can you do?
If you wish to use the service but are not currently doing so, please ring the school and sign up.
If you are a current user please contact your school and let them know if a) you would be prepared to keep the service going by paying a little more or b) you would be prepared to see the service stopped. Please note that if there are any North Balclutha students who are travelling on Ministry buses in order to cross the river e.g. Hillend, Clutha Valley, Kaitangata etc. buses this must stop immediately. Only students who are approved and have an entitlement may travel on these buses.
We will review the situation at the end of term 2 and make a decision as to the future of this bus run. Parents will get one term’s advance warning of any changes to the current service.
