    10th May 2019

    Dear Parents/Caregivers

    Kia Ora Tatou

The weather during the last two weeks has certainly turned cooler and it is timely to remind parents of bus students that if we have issues with the busses not being able to run or delayed start to school we will endeavour to communicate with families through the following services. We will work to ensure that announcements are broadcast on Big River Radio and Hokonui Radio. We will also use our e-text service to provide information to families where we have been given permission to text parents. If you are uncertain as to whether we have the correct cell phone number for you please contact the school office to confirm your details.

    Teacher only day

Please remember that on Monday 13 May, South Otago High School will be closed for instruction whilst the teachers participate in a professional development day alongside many of our primary colleagues. There will be no teachers on site and there will be no supervision available for students. We apologise for the inconvenience that this may cause.

    Uniform

This week we have been working with students to ensure that they are wearing the correct uniform. On the whole students have taken note of our requests and we have also received positive feedback from members of our community who have said that students are looking smart and tidy as they go down the street.

Thank you to parents who have supported our efforts and we will continue to work with students and family/ whanau to ensure that every student is following our value of excellence in their uniform.

    Board of Trustees Elections

I would like to re-print the information to parents regarding the Board of Trustee elections.

Later this year there will be the opportunity for parents to stand as Board of Trustee representatives. Nominations for Board elections close on 24 May.

The New Zealand School Trustees Association (NZSTA) is helping to promote this role and is offering a workshop at Balclutha Primary School on Monday 13 May at 6:30pm. If you would like to attend please register your interest with Lucienne Shelley  lshelley@nzsta.org.nz. Other links that might be useful can be found on the NZSTA website:
