  • Principal’s Address 27th October 2017

    27th Oct 2017

    Dear Parents/Caregivers

    Kia Ora Tatou

This week has certainly flown by and brings senior students a little bit closer to their final assessments. Earlier this week I took the opportunity to view some of the senior Art display boards before they are sent for assessment with NZQA. To my untrained eye, the work is outstanding and we certainly have some very talented students here at South Otago High School.

During the week I have also been hearing of students who have gained the credits towards their NCEA certificates or have done sufficient to gain their Merit or Excellence endorsement. I do encourage students to continue to finish any outstanding assignments and to use the time available wisely to prepare thoroughly for exams.

Teachers are willing and enthusiastic about supporting students so please discuss any issues with class teachers.

    Head Student selection for 2018

Following the successful process and appointment of head students for 2017 we have commenced with the recruitment of head students for 2018. All applicants have prepared a letter of application and CV as well as addressed the whole school. The next stage is to interview selected students. I look forward to announcing the head students for 2018 at the Senior Prize Giving event on Tuesday 7 November.

     Graduation dinner

This year we will have our final farewell to Year 13 students at a graduation dinner on Wednesday 29 November. This is a new event and I hope that all Year 13 students will join me as we wish our students farewell and all the best for their next stage of their life.

    Community Consultation

Last week letters were sent home inviting parents to the community consultation evenings. Thank you to the parents who attended the meetings this week. We appreciate your feedback and have started to work on some of your ideas already.

The information gathered from these meetings will be used, alongside other feedback to develop the school strategic plan for the future of the school. The event will start with a brief survey of tick box responses and then a discussion about items that are important to parents.

The remaining meetings are being held at:

    • Clutha Valley Primary School, Monday 30 October at 7:30pm
    • Balclutha Town and Country Club, Wednesday 1 November at 7:30pm

Please do contact the school office or send in the reply slip from the letter if you are anticipating attending one of these meetings.

I look forward to meeting you in the coming weeks.
