20th August

Nga mihi mahana ki a koutou katoa. Warm greetings to you all

Well done to the Girls Hockey 1st XI who won their grade this week. Hockey has had a very solid season and the 2nd XI will play next week in the final of their division against Columba College. Good luck girls!
Our boys Soccer team finished the season with a win and took out 5th place in the top division.
The Girls Rubgy 1st XV have been outstanding performers over the last few seasons. Once again they took out the Otago Southland title after defeating Southland Girls High School in the final.
One of the features of our school is the effort that teachers put into organizing trips and learning experiences outside of the school. Snow caving, skiing, geography trip to Queenstown and the Year 12 Physics flying trip are recent examples of activities that have been run. However, the reality is that these all cost money. We can only continue to offer these opportunities if we can cover costs. We appreciate the efforts that parents make to pay for trips in advance. We also appreciate that some families would like to be able to make payments over time. If you wish to do this please contact the school office and ask for Anne.
In the classroom, senior students should now be gearing up for their internal examinations that will take place in the second to last week of term. Students will have study leave for the Tuesday through to the Friday of this week. I expect that the time spent off school will be well used. In addition to the examinations on work that is currently being learned, some teachers are running catch-ups for assessments that students have not passed from earlier in the year. As this week is school time, attendance at examinations and re-sits is not optional.
Next week is International Week. On Monday we will have an international food fair in the Hall at lunchtime. It is always a good thing to recognize that our school and our society is made up of many ethnic groups who each have their own unique culture.
Have a good week.
