3rd February 2012
ROLL
The 2012 has started on a very positive note. We have welcomed over 110 Year 9 students and a good number of new students at other year levels. Our total roll is ahead of the predictions made by the Ministry of Education. This is great news.
STAFF
Six new teachers have joined our staff. They were selected from very strong fields of applicants.
Mr Brewster - Maths
Miss Harvey – Social Studies/Geography
Miss Hasanbegovic – English/Media Studies
Mrs Hepburn-HOD Technology
Miss Sneesby- Physical Education and Health
Mr Yates- Physical Education and Health
I know that the community will extend a warm welcome to them.
We have had some changes in position of responsibility within our teaching staff.
Miss O’Sullivan – HOD Physical Education and Health
Mrs Burgess – Assistant HOD English (acting)
Miss McLean – Assistant HOD Social Sciences (acting)
Mrs Williams – Year 12 Dean (acting)
PROPERTY
The upgrade of our Information technology are is complete. There are now three superb new computer rooms. Students and staff will no doubt enjoy working in the new facilities.
The old B Block is no more. The demolition is progressing well and we are about to start the process of replacing our Technology and Visual Arts facility on this site. It will be great to watch the progress throughout the year.
NCEA RESULTS
I am pleased to report that we have done well in several
areas. Numeracy and Literacy at Year 11 is well ahead of
national averages. Our Year 13 University Entrance rate is also pleasingly high. At all year levels we compare very
favourably when it comes to achieving a level 1 – 3 NCEA certificate.
Y9 and 10 PARENT EVENING
I invite all parents of Y9 and 10 students to join us at 7.30pm on Wednesday 8 February. The purpose of this meeting is for staff and parents to get together to look at how we can support student learning.
I look forward to seeing you there.
Have a good week.
