Uniform

We are very proud of our school, and we believe that this is reflected in our students' personal presentation. We expect students to demonstrate their pride in our school by wearing their uniforms in a neat and tidy fashion.

 

For All Students

Jersey: Regulation royal blue V-neck jersey with monogram
School Blazer: Royal blue sports blazer may be worn by all students. Blazers are available for hire through the School Office.
Vest: A sleeveless, royal blue woollen vest, similar style to jersey (optional).
Jacket:  Two styles of navy-blue jackets are approved by the school. One is a polar fleece and the other a waterproof jacket. 
Shoes: Black, low-heeled, lace-up shoes with plain black laces; or brown Roman sandals with single buckle over foot and ankle, worn withour socks.
Scarf: Plain navy, plain black or plain red.
T-Shirts: A plain white t-shirt (no logo), may be worn under shirt/blouse in Terms 2 and 3.
Gloves: Navy, blue or black gloves - single colour, not combinations.
Beanies: Navy blue or black (no logos allowed).

Year 9, 10 and 11 Girls' Uniform
Kilt: Available from Helean Kiltmakers, Dunedin. Order forms available from School Office.
Summer Skirt (Optional): Light-weight summer skirt, plain back with two inverted front pleats. Can be worn in Terms 1 and 4
White Shirt: Plain college style, long or short sleeve, revere collar. Two style available.
Socks/Tights: White mid-calf length socks or black/navy tights.

Year 9, 10 and 11 Boys' Uniform
Shirt: Yr 9, 10 and 11 - Aertex Blue check shirt.
T-shirt: Plain navy blue or white
Shorts or Trousers: Regulation grey shorts or long trousers.
Socks: Grey with red, white and blue trim.

Year 12 and 13 Girls' Uniform
Kilt:
As for Juniors.
Summer Skirt: (Optional) in Terms 1 and 4 as for Junior Uniform.
Senior Skirt: (Optional) A plain navy skirt which can be ordered through the School Office.
White Shirt: Plain college style, long or short sleeves.
School Tie: (Optional) may only be worn with a stiff-colared shirt.
Socks/Tights: White mid-calf length socks or black/navy tights

Year 12 and 13 Boys' Uniform
White shirt, School tie, grey long or short trousers in standard grey with School blazer or jersey.

PE Uniform
Pants or Shorts:
Navy Blue (track pants material - no logo)
Tops: Bob Charles type, navy blue with School Logo. All students may wear the School jersey in cool weather.
Shoes: Students may use non-marking sports footwear with white sports socks, or bare feet.
Logos: On all sportswear must be limited to small manufacturer's trade name or SOHS name or monogram.

Hair
Year 9 and 10 students must tie hair back once it reaches the collar.
The following applies to all students: Hair ties/ribbon must be red, navy, royal blue in single colour (not combinations). Hair clips or combs are to be the colour of the hair. Students are not permitted to wear their hair in such a way that is could bring disrespect to the School. Extreme hair styles are unnatural colours are not acceptable. Selected shaving is not permitted.

Jewellery
Jewellery is to be limited to functional jewellery such as a watch or medic-alert bracelet. Students have the option of wearing up to one silver or gold stud (with/without coloured stones) or sleeper (maximum 12mm) in each ear only. Visible piercings are not permitted.Taonga may be worn as long as they are kept under clothing (needs to be on a long chain/string). Jewellery should be removed for Physical Education.

Cosmetics
Students may not wear cosmetics whilst in school uniform.

Sunhats
Students are encouraged to wear sunhats during the summer months.

Liaison Committee

The Board of Trustees has established a Liaison Committee which has uniform as one of its responsibilities. The Committee comprises two parents (PTA), one Board member, two Staff and two Student Council representatives. All changes to uniform will be gradual and a phase-in period will be allowed. Parents and retailers will be notified of changes in good time by way of newsletters.

All aspects pertaining to uniform, not covered above, are at the discretion of the Prinicipal and Deputy Principal.
