The Great Kiwi Bookathon!

SOHS is taking part in the Great Kiwi Bookathon.

A fun way to encourage students to read, win prizes and raise awareness and money for Blind Low Vision NZ, a charity which supports blind and low vision kids with reading.

This not only aligns with the school goal of raising literacy levels across the school, but also allows us to give back to charity.

Over June students will be encouraged to get to the library to find a book and given time to read. We would love your support at home by asking students what they’re reading, encouraging reading time, and even reading with them yourself. The research shows that when young people see adults at home reading they are far more likely to read themselves, and have higher academic outcomes.
