Literacy strategy of the week:  Cloze exercise - A cloze activity is one in which words are removed from a passage for a learner to fill in. The missing words may or may not be provided in a word bank. It helps develop writing skills as learners work to complete sentences and gain an understanding of constructing sentences and developing paragraphs to make sense. It also gives a model of whole texts. It also gives a model of whole texts which is valuable in building understanding of what good writing looks like. 

At home: I don’t have a cloze exercise for you, but maybe you’d like to play some vocabulary building games with your kids? Here’s a code cracker which is one of my favourite types of word puzzles.

What we’re reading: “A mind for numbers. How to excel at math and science even if you flunked algebra” by Barbara Oakley Ph. D.
