The Great NZ Bookathon

For the month of June SOHS is participating in the Great NZ Bookathon which is a nationwide reading competition.

It helps raise money for a charity which helps fund resources for blind and low vision children. There was a fundraising link sent out in the newsletter last week.

In class students will be given time to read! There will be tracking sheets set up to record books read. You will set personal reading goals so that if you are a super speedy keen reader or at the other end of the scale and haven’t read a book in years, you will be able to set a goal to get you reading more.

There will be prizes for the English class and the mentor class which reads the most books as well as individual prizes for top readers and people who achieve their personal reading goals.

Have a hunt for a book and make sure you bring it to school each day for the rest of the term.

We will have a dress up as a book character day in the last week of school so get thinking about your book character costume!

To kick off the fun we have four keen readers we awarded a brand new exceptional reader badge. Bride Lumb, Laila Asman, Ellie Olsen Vetland and Erin Turner.
