Week 3 Literacy Tip from English Department

Week 3 Literacy Tip of the week

Developing on skim reading from last week, this week we have been looking at scanning. This is another reading strategy to find specific information in a text. Interestingly this is quite different when looking at physical text on paper and digital text (particularly if the digital text is surrounded by a lot of ads, colours or flashing features.)

What we’re reading: Mr Hynds has been re-reading the 8 books of Outlander by Dr Diana Gabaldon,  who was [at the time of writing this note] visiting one of his previous Universities in Glasgow!

Screen-Free activity of the week: Play charades! You might need a quick Google to remind yourselves of the rules but this is a great game to practise non-verbal communication (and maybe thinking about the books and movies you have/want to read!)
