Thanks for Attending the RYDA Workshop

Thank you for organising your students to attend the RYDA Workshop on Aug 15, 2023.

I know this is a lot of organisation and really appreciate the commitment your school has made to our programme.

Your students were a credit to your school both in their behaviour and the manner in which they engaged with the presenters and our volunteers.  We were impressed with their attentiveness, and trust that our potentially life-saving messages will stand them in good stead for the future.

Thanks also to you and the other teachers for your assistance on the day!

The contribution your school has paid for the programme represents only a fraction of the full cost (total $65 pp).  We cover the balance with financial support received from Rotary Clubs, our co-founding sponsors BOC and NZ Steel, and major partners Bridgestone,VTNZ and Toyota. We also thank Cooke Howlison Toyota Balclutha for lending us a car for our speed and stopping demonstration & the Rotary Club of Balclutha for their donation and support..  If you are writing about this in your newsletter or posting on your Facebook page we would love it if you acknowledged their support too and remember to tag us in @rydaroadsafety so we can share the post.

What to do next?

RYDA Learning Management System

To embed the learning from the workshop we recommend you get your students to complete the RYDA revision course.  Access to the course will be based on your actual student attendance at the workshop plus 5 extra seats for any students who missed the workshop due to being sick.

The LMS easy to use and once you have invited students to the course you can set and forget it as students complete the modules at their own pace and our coaches at RSE will mark any open ended questions and assignments for you.

As teachers you do not need to learn a complicated interface to interact with the RYDA LMS. You can track student progress through a user-friendly dashboard and  manage student enrolment and view and print complete report cards for each student and they can print completion certificates for their CVS.

Content initially consists of a 5-module RYDA follow-up course, with plans to expand to pre-workshop and other courses in the future. You will receive a separate email with an invitation to join your school's private page where you can invite and manage student membership in the next week.

Other ideas?

  • Use the Classroom RYDA Debrief found in the Teacher’s Companion as a guide to discussing RYDA upon your return to school.
  • Encourage students to complete the post-attendance evaluation form on RSE’s website.
  • Encourage students to engage with the student resources on the RYDA website and enter RSE’s competition. (we will send you a separate email with details which you can pass on to students)
  • Discuss the workshop with attending teachers and report at staff meeting.
  • Integrate road safety education into your curriculum learning after attending the RYDA workshop.  (See list of links to government curriculum resources on page 26 of the RYDA Implementation Guide).
  • Access and implement RYDA’s post attendance materials as appropriate.
  • Materials should include initiation and reflection/evaluation of student-led actions identified in their RYDA GPS workbooks.
  • Support and promote the planned student-led actions.
  • Encourage a small group of students to share their learnings within the school community  – either through a student committee (eg SADD) or school assembly/PTA presentation.

Need more support embedding road safety into your curriculum?

We have a dedicated educator (Graeme Hood) to support our RYDA schools with how to use our pre and post workshop resources and develop new resources for you to help meet specific needs.  Graeme  has been a secondary school teacher for over 30 years including 10 years in senior leadership roles at high schools around the country.  He is also a qualified driving instructor. He understands the pressures you face and is available for free to support you on any extra learning you would like to build around your workshop. Evaluation Surveys

RSE is committed to providing students with a quality learning experience that is student-centred in its approach.  Therefore, it is essential that your school community has a voice in the review and development of RYDA.  We have separate surveys for students, teachers and parents. Can you please pass along invitations to each group, letting them know that when they are asked to select a venue from a dropdown list, their venue is: Balclutha.

  • Coordinating teachers - We would love to get your feedback on the administration and organisation of the RYDA Workshop. Please follow this link and complete a short 1 minute survey click here.
  • Attending teachers' survey - If your colleagues didn't get a chance to complete the teacher feedback surveys during RYDA, we would love to get their feedback via the online version here click here
  • Students' online survey (takes about 5 minutes to complete) click here. Student feedback is especially useful, and as an incentive, all completed surveys received, will be entered into a competition to receive a $100 VISA card.  We'll send you a separate email that you can forward straight on to students with this link.
  • Parents' survey - Please forward this survey link to the parents of the participating students to enable us to get a 360 degree view of the program?

Facebook and Instagram

Please promote our Facebook page and Instagram account to your students and teachers. Students can get involved in the road safety conversation, enter competitions and win prizes:
