Week Three

Literacy Tip: Sharing Writing

Last week I spoke about modelling, reading and writing. This week I encourage you to share some writing with your child. Do you have a family member or a friend who doesn’t live near you whom you could write an email to? Or even better, a physical letter? I bet you’d earn some brownie points sending a real life letter to a family member, perhaps an older relative, to share what’s been going on with you lately. It’s a shared experience, encouraging you to slow down and think, as well as showing that writing isn’t just for school.

Ms Beaumont - HOD English

What we’re reading: Ms Beaumont (a huge fan of audiobooks) listened to Galatea by Madeline Miller, who wrote Song of Achilles and Circe. She reimagines classical myths from a female point of view which is so interesting. It encourages you to consider the perspectives of characters literature (and history) neglects or forgets. Galatea is from the story of Pygmalion which was also reimagined into “My Fair Lady” so the tradition of reworking the classics is not new.
