Wellbeing: Peer Support

Peer Support sessions continued this week with a session in the hall with Mrs Bloxham Guidance Counsellor, Mrs Ward Year 9 Dean and Mrs Jory Assistant Principal -Junior Pastoral speaking about student support, our values and positive behaviour expectations.

Some of the things that students learned about included;

The Guidance Counsellor is available to support students and their families. Generally students email for an appointment time or pop in to see her in her office, good times to make appointments are before school or intervals.

The Youth Health Clinic is run from the Guidance Counsellor office, once a week on Mondays at lunchtime. This is free and no appointment is necessary. Students go to see Lisa the Public Health Nurse about all sorts of health issues. Please look out for the large signs that are out when she is in school.

Other general support and  PB4L systems

-Lunch  passes can be obtained by seeing Mrs Wright in the attendance office or Mrs Ward Dean for the form to be signed by parents

-The portal has access to your live report grades, attendance, the daily notices, log in through the school website and portal tab.

-PB4L stands for positive behaviour for learning, our school values are respect, excellence and perseverance.

-Badges and REP cards-12 signatures of one value is the bronze badge, 30 signatures of one value the silver badge and 50 of one value the gold.

-Each week our student-led assembly has a chocolate fish draw and reinforces our school values through their messages and focus for the week.

-There are School Community guerdons at the office for students to put a token in to choose a whole school reward like we have had outdoor climbing gear and the shade sail at the canteen, what ideas do you have for this year, charities or equipment for students?

-Students learned about some of our basic expectations for uniform, no chewing gum, staying in your seat until the bell rings etc

-The daily notices were read out, these highlighted numerous lunchtime and after school opportunities for students such as poppy making, vocal group, orchestra, kapahaka, debating, film making and the council run sports week. Students were encouraged to give things a try.

-Year 13 leaders were thanked for the help and support of our junior students. There were many examples of them guiding and encouraging our Year 9s as they learn about how we do things in our school.
