English Department Week 6

I have been writing tips to try to encourage you to be involved with your students' learning, but I know that’s not always easy or possible for everyone.

Week Six

Literacy Tip: Talking about the hard stuff.

I have been writing tips to try to encourage you to be involved with your students' learning, but I know that’s not always easy or possible for everyone. Especially if you have a reluctant talker at home. Do you get stonewalled when you ask, “How was school?” This week I wanted to give you a list of other, open ended questions, to try and see if it helps open them up to talk. The more you can get them chatting about school, the better! Good luck!

 Some ideas:

  1. What made you laugh today?
  2. Which subject was your favourite today? Why?
  3. What was the best part of your day?
  4. What did you do at lunch today?
  5. What was the most interesting thing you learned today?
  6. What did you like most about school today?
  7. What was the hardest thing you did today?
