On Monday, 4th August, as part of our Physics of Flight Extra Class, myself and eleven other students took to the sky for a 20 minute flight in a Cessna 172 High Wing.
In groups of three, alongside Jack as our skillful pilot and instructor, we got to experience zero g-force and positive g-forces - which felt like 2 copies of ourselves were standing on our shoulders! During the fight we got great views of our high school and the Nuggets.
The highlight of the flight was that some of us were given the opportunity to fly the plane with Jack's assistance at the ready. The whole experience gave us the chance to apply the things we had learnt in class and turn them into a reality.
It was a great experience and I am glad to have been given the opportunity to learn a new concept within aviation from an amazing teacher.
We would like to thank our Physics teacher Mr Sly, our pilot Jack, as well as Bill O’Connor and Israel Winn of the South Otago Aeroclub for making this experience possible.
