Wellbeing Week 5

Wellbeing: Student and family support

As we come through the winter months and leading into the examination period some students are starting to feel tired as they juggle busy schedules, sickness and stress. The following tips on fatigue may be helpful. Dealing with tiredness and fatigue can impact our lives significantly and sometimes make it difficult to concentrate and get through the day. If students are feeling fatigue longer than a few days sometimes there can be a number of causes and it’s best to speak with a medical professional.

Tips

  • Prioritise sleep, going to bed and waking up at the same time each day can help.
  • Maintain a balanced diet, fruits, vegetables, proteins and wholegrains.
  • Stay hydrated, drinking plenty of water.
  • Exercise, aiming for at least 30 minutes most days.
  • Mindfulness and meditation can be useful for some people. There are a number of resources, I have mentioned the groov app previously which has useful information. Many of us listened to John Kirwin last year when he visited Te Pou Ō Mata-Au to speak about wellbeing and mental health.

Please do not hesitate to contact me or your child’s dean or senior leader if you would like any further support. We are here to help.
