This week our word of the week was prudent - to act with or show care and thought for the future.
I thought this an appropriate word as we move into CAAs next week then derived grade exams. Hopefully all Year 10-13 students are being prudent by making an exam study timetable and doing some preparation for these upcoming exams.
A reminder for students sitting CAAs: To bring headphones to use POLLY the speech to text feature available for Writing and Numeracy. Also, bring a calculator, ruler and pen for Numeracy.
I have seen some incredible diligence in the lead up to the CAAs and wish everyone sitting them all the best luck! I have a handful of Year 10s in my English class who have passed both Reading and Writing CAAs, so as the others are doing preparation, I have given them a novel to read. This is beautiful extension and reminded me of a video I shared with mentor teachers this week. I’m not sure if the link will work but it is a screen recording of Luke Bateman @lukebateman_ (an ex rugby league player) talking from his tractor about the importance of reading, especially for young boys. I encourage you to have a watch. He reviews books and gives suggestions on his social media platform which is heartening to see.
The importance of boys reading
One of the best ways you can get your children reading is to model it - read yourself, especially dads. So with Father’s Day coming up, can I suggest a trip to the local book shop. I will attach a list of suggested books Dad might like.
