In the last three days of term three 12 students and 2 teachers travelled to Wellington to see the World of Wearable Arts trip.
WoW is an annual competition which highlights and celebrates designers from around the world. Genres are announced a year prior and creative minds design and create the most incredible costumes. They really do make you think WOW!! The costumes are organised into categories which are performed as part of a larger show with a narrative running through it to tie them together. It's an incredible spectacle of lights, staging and music. The final category this year was based on the theme of myths and legends, and the costumes looked like they could be from a fantasy film. It was beautiful.
The last dress rehearsal before opening night is offered to schools and students at a reduced rate which makes it a great opportunity to travel to Wellington and experience the art and the city. We have a day in Wellington to explore and shop. As we stay near the beehive and the waterfront which is where Te Papa is located, there is a lot to fill in the day. Transport around the city is easy to navigate, and this year we also went to Wellington Zoo, which was a fantastic experience. Overall the trip is always a highlight for students and a wonderful way to do something outside the curriculum which is enriching and inspiring.
