On Tuesday for our assembly we celebrated Matariki by planting a tree!
Matariki is the Māori name for the cluster of stars that rises in midwinter and heralds the start of the Māori new year. Te Mātahi o te tau.
Matariki is a time to gather with whānau and friends, to reflect on the past, celebrate the present, and plan for the future.
This year Matariki is celebrated on Friday 10th July which is in the first week of the school holidays.
This year’s theme is Matariki herenga waka which is all about inclusion and encouraging all people to celebrate Matariki together.
Mānawatia a Matariki!
Happy Matariki!
