On Wednesday 9 September of Kapa Haka Group - Te Kapa Haka o Iwikatea and our Pasifika Group - Tupulaga Otako i Saute performed at the Otago Polyfest in Dunedin!

This year for our Kapa Haka group we have a lot of our students who are also in our Tupulaga - Pasifika group perform. We had so many students that we didn’t have enough uniforms for everyone. So we went with black skirts, white shirts and black shorts. All of our items apart from our Waiata-ā-ringa (Action Song) were written by Matua Kiritopa (our new Te Reo Māori kaiako) and his whānau. We are grateful to have Kiritopa and also Salu Ta’avili who has also helped tutor our rōpū. We want to acknowledge our leaders Rashaun Melvin (Kaitātaki Tane), Jorja Andrews (Kaitākai Wāhine). A big thank you also goes out to Miss Tuhega for always organising everyone in the background. 

For our Tupulaga - Pasifika Group , this was only the 2nd time that we have performed at Otago Polyfest and we wanted in incorporate all of our Pasifika students cultures so we had Kiribati & Samoan items with our Fijian students perform as well. We want to acknowledge some of our Year 13 students who helped with some of the items - Samuelu Tumaai with the boys dance and Tangiria Taniera with the Kiribati dance and Mercy as the Taupou. Another big thanks goes out to Salu Ta’avili for tutoring the groups, Ms Alvina Brown and Miss Tuhega for organising everything in the background.
