Today we celebrated Te Wiki O Te Reo Māori - Māori Language Week with our SOHS Cultural Competition!

SOHS CULTURAL COMPETITION

Jorja Andrews and Grace Bradfield our Cultural Prefects were the MC’s. We started with a karakia and Matua Kiritopa opened us up with a kōrero followed by the staff singing the school waiata to set the scene. 

House groups were randomly picked with Sutherland first up, Somerville second, McDonald third and then Blaikie last. 

Our Kapa Haka group performed and our judges gave feedback and the results. Our judges this year were Matua Kiritopa, Matua Jared and Whaea Ruth Baldwin. 

We finished off with a full school haka/haka off and karakia. 

RESULTS:

Kaitātaki Tāne (Male Leader) - 1st Rāhui Valli

Kaitātaki Wahine (Female Leader) - 1st Kaya Leevey

OVERALL WINNERS:

1st - McDonald 

2nd=- Blaikie & Somerville 

3rd - Sutherland
