Principal’s Address 14th February 202014th Feb 2020
Kia Ora Tatou
It has been good to get back into a routine this week and as might be expected for the start of the school year it has been a very busy time. This week the Year 9 students have been out at Greenpark. Sadly this is the first year I was unable to get out to see the groups due to other commitments. However, the feedback has been very positive and I am sure that all the students will have had a great time.
Greenpark is also an opportunity for some of our senior students to lead activities. The help of the senior students working with our new students is vital and does help create the warm welcoming time that is South Otago High School.
This week has also seen the arrival of our three Mandarin Language Assistants, Rebecca, Snow and Wendy. They have also been to Greenpark and are preparing to work with the primary schools. I know that they will be made to feel welcome in our community.
The student council has now been announced and I am looking forward to hearing them address the school in the coming weeks during assemblies. The Student Council will be running a number of activities throughout the year for students. They also have a responsibility to lead our Friday assembly.
This morning a number of the student council hosted our kick start breakfast. This is a free breakfast for any student that either needs or wants to drop in for a snack or drink on a Friday morning. All students are welcome and it is a great opportunity to catch up with friends on a Friday morning.
Next week is our athletics day on Thursday. I encourage all students to participate and for our junior students this will count towards their award of a graduation certificate at the end of the year. As the weather is a bit uncertain we will keep students informed as to the plan for the day as the day draws near.
Have a great weekend.
