    23rd Jun 2017

    Dear Parents/Caregivers

    Kia Ora Tatou

Another busy week with a lot going on. With the shortest day behind us I am looking forward to longer days and am sure that the warmer weather will not be too far away! In the more immediate future we have just two weeks until the end of the term and some events to put in your diary.

    Meet the employers

On Tuesday 4 July at 6pm we will be hosting a meet the employers evening. This is aimed primarily at our students from Year 10 upwards but we do encourage our Year 9 students to come along too. The employers will be talking about the opportunities that are available in our region.

More importantly they will be giving advice to students about what employers are looking for in terms of skills and talents. They will have suggestions to support parents as their child looks to gain their first job. I do hope that most students will attend and be supported by their parents.

The employers are giving up their time so please do come along to learn about the opportunities that are available locally and potentially internationally.

    Gore Interchange

This week we had our annual winter exchange with Gore High School. Some students travelled to Gore whilst others had home games here. It was a very busy day and I know that all the students who participated enjoyed the experience. Thank you to all the coaches, managers and volunteers who supported the day and made it such a success. In particular thank you to Pam Hannah for her hard work in organising a great day for our students.

    Cell phones in school

South Otago High School has been very open to students having cell phones at school. However, there have been some issues with students using their phones in class. On Friday I have explained to students the expectations with regard to the use of phones. Parents, please support the school.

Please, if you need to speak to your son/ daughter call them at interval, 11:00-11:25 or lunch, 1:25-2:10. Please do not disturb the learning that is going on in class. If it is urgent, please call the school office, 03 418 0517, and we will ensure the message is delivered promptly.

    Teacher only day

As mentioned in the last newsletter, next term we will be having a teacher only day on Friday 28 July. The school will be closed for instruction for the day. Senior students who attend tertiary programmes or work experience on this day will still be expected to attend  their off-site programmes, as usual.
