As part of this we are a BYOD - Bring Your Own Device - school. This means we strongly encourage all students to be ready for class with a charged device and ready to learn.

In Year 9 and Y10 we recommend Chromebooks as a tool for the learning that will take place within the classroom. Chromebooks are devices that are cost effective with all the capacity that your child will need. We regularly have students bring their Chromebooks from their primary school to use at South Otago.

In Senior school some students continue to use their Chromebook and other students purchase a laptop or similar device. Either of these is perfectly satisfactory and often depends on the subject options that a student takes.

Mobile devices and devices are allowed at South Otago High School. However, as they do not have a keypad to type on they are not sufficient for learning. During lessons these devices are only to be used with teacher permission. As with all other equipment at school we will do our best to ensure a safe and secure environment although the ultimate responsibility lies with the student and family.
